Deportment Basic
Runway Deportment opens with Nixem teaching the basic catwalk routines of pivots and turns which is easier said than done as well as passing on some simple daily regime to improve your all important posture, pose and poise.

Open to all ladies who wishes to pick up some tips to a better sashay and models to reinforce what they may have already learned.

Deportment Advance
In advance classes, Nixem will teach alternative runway catwalk & group techniques suitable for various styles of fashion, commercial shows and events. Developments will focus on creating awareness of a model's Silhouette, Symmetry, Showmanship and Stage Presence. Expect to learn about first impressions, presenting your best photographic angle and enhance your Stance.

Deportment is an acquired knowledge to boost their overall image presence, particularly in events, entertainment, F&B and other service related industries. Nothing accentuates better than a good walk in anyone, it simply elevates self esteem and confidence. While make-up & hair can do wonders, nothing can compensate for a lack of runway techniques.

KENZO RUNWAY SHOW AT CAVENAGH BRIDGE, SINGAPORE

Kenzo took Singapore's fashion scene by storm... they conceptualised and conceived the idea of a runway show on one of the Singapore's iconic landmark, The Cavenagh Bridge at Raffles Quay.

Collection of Spring Summer 2002 was showcased in conjunction with Singapore's first Fashion Festival.

Mammoth task by Kim Saprimon from Kenzo... and i was engaged to choreograph the fashion show, the first ever on this historical bridge that ends with a spectacular fire work.

40 models were transformed to sashay the runway where a huge runway ramp was constructed.

Those were the days my friends...

MSN Butterflies @CommunicAsia - Splendours of Colours

CommunicaAsia was flocked with MSN butterflies' in flurry of colors to add visual spectacle to both exhibitors and the audience by MSN publicity campaign.

MSN butterflies were morphed by Nixem and his body painting team to create buzz and excitement...in garnering publicity stunt.

20 girls were chosen based on IQ & EQ where they had to undergo training in choreography, product knowledge as well as public relations skill.

All the girls and the body painting crew helmed by Nixem were put up in a hotel for a period of 5 days for the 3 day events.

The girls and the crew had to wake up as early as 4am for them to get ready by 9am where they were whisked to the exhibition and in action.

Indeed, it was an exhilarating experience.

Hermes

Catwalk with a difference... magnificent concept by Hermes for its Spring Summer collections.

I was engaged to choreograph Hermes Spring/Summer collection with a difference in early 2000s. Interestingly, the 'showcase' was on a converted travelator ... yes... it's moving!

A moving window display indeed where the audience viewed with gusto.

Trains of shoes.. mules, heels, pumps... were assembled backstage by Runway team in sync with the look and music. After all, that's what i was there for... to choreograph and conceive the concept.

The tricky part, getting our fabulous models to 'walk', 'run', do the tango or simply 'fly'... of course, we can't reveal how it's been done...

Simply, it was like a window display comes alive...., the Finale ends with models lugging the signature Hermes boxes all decked in ribbons.

Interesting too, this is the only show that make up is not conformed to faces...

what matter most are the legs.. where the models were selected for having the best legs... the darlings of catwalk... great job by our dear professional make up artisan, Sharmilah.. yes, it has been a long journey for both of us.... and voila, Runway Concepts & BigIsGorgeous by Sharmilah eventually conceived.

International Women Day Celebration

Guest of Honor, Mr Hawazi Daipi, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, presented Nixem with a plaque in appreciation of his contributions and effort to the community.
In preparation for a Fashion Show on International Women Day Celebration held at Marsiling Community Centre. Nixem conducted a class for the ladies of Woodland Area where he gave them a glimpse into the world of Runway Deportment and introduced Catwalk-Ercise which aims to improve the posture, style and confidence of women by empowering them to look good and feel good.

Stars come out to promote breast cancer awareness in style

The stars came out in style at Bobby's Taproom.Grill.Ribs at Chjimes for a star-studded event as part of Bobby's championing the "Stand Up To Breast Cancer 2010" campaign - a fundraising and awareness campaign in support of the Breast Cancer Foundation Singapore (BCF).

Guests dressed to the "Gorgeous In Pink" theme and a plethora of Singapore and international celebrities did all in their means to ensure that funds were raised for the good cause.

Hosts and auctioneers for the evening were Alan Wilkins, ESPN Star Sports Commentator/Presenter and Linda Black, a professional model, emcee and HBO host.

The pink fashioned themed event saw a glamorous catwalk show organised by Bobby's and directed by Runway Concepts featuring outfits from Glitterati and Stylemart.

Taking to the catwalk were Colleen Francisca - Mrs Singapore World 2008, Irene Chui Mei Chun – a breast cancer survivor herself, Felomina Devaraj Rulloda - Managing Director of Bobby's and a host of international models.

The charity auction raised over $18,700 in support of the Breast Cancer Foundation.

Items auctioned included a Roger Federer autographed tennis racket (sponsored by ex-tennis ace Vijay Amritraj), the painting "Happy Moments II" by Kuen Stefanie, "Little Samsui Women" sculptures by Lim Leong Seng, a beauty hamper and watches by Jonathan Holland & Associates, Mumms Magnum Champagne by Pernod Richard and a signed national cricket shirt from Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India's Cricket Captain and the ICC ODI Player of the Year for 2008 and 2009.

There was also entertainment in the evening including performances by the 2006 Singapore Idol Hady Mirza and dancers from the Tango Lyrical Theatre.

This "Gorgeous in Pink" event is part of a nine and a half months fundraising campaign that runs until the end of October, which is official breast cancer awareness month.

Felomina Devaraj Rulloda, Managing Director of Bobby's, said, “Throughout this important initiative, Bobby's will pledge 50 cents of every receipt issued at its Chijmes outlet to the Breast Cancer Foundation.

“The $18,700 we raised in [this] auction is fabulous, but we still have much more to give to this cause that is so important to women in Singapore".

Other organisations such as the Singapore Council of Women's Organisations, Women's Initiative For Aging Successfully and Chinese Women's Association have also combined to create awareness and education about breast cancer.

The campaign aims to encourage more women to go for mammograms and to raise funds to assist the Breast Cancer Foundation in its ongoing efforts.

It also aims to create media and public support for the foundation, a non-profit organisation that encourages early detection and provides moral support for breast cancer sufferers and their families.

This includes connecting them with breast cancer survivors and experts to help them cope while undergoing treatment.

Runway Concepts was commissioned recently to do a fashion show at Pump Room recently where renown celebrities contributed their efforts and time with passion and conviction.

Lush 99.5 FM DJ Kate Reyes was at the helm and her mom, Esther lent her hands at the back ends, that includes Shijuay, Charmaine, Rahmah, Patricia, Suzy & Albert.

The fashion show was made up of DJs Vernetta Lopez, Yasmin, Corrine Gibbons, Rod Monteiro (and son), Lavinia Tan, Cheryl Miles and with a touch of class and pizzaz, celebrities, Nicholas Lee, Benedict Goh, Claressa Monteiro & Moe Alkaff.

Their contribution certainly revved up the style quotients. Kudos for their efforts for making this cause possible in aid for Lupus Foundation.

KNIGHTSBRIDGE Launch

Team of dedicated professionals from designer, stylist, make up and hair stylists and of course, body-painters worked laboriously to morph the idea into a surrealistic imagery within a frame of only 7 hours on 8 models..

What better way to showcase hair styles from the house of WAHL is through of course its legendary well acclaimed hair clippers that now comes in many variations... especially, the BLING version!...

GlamRock was the theme.. and the stylists, Harold Pritchard from USA, MAC from Japan, Grace from Singapore, Manas from Thailand and Aiken from Malaysia... showcased their skills and ingenuity.. love the tattoo style from Japan.. simply stunning!

In embracing the iconic style of tattoo, 3 models were body-painted to champion the overall theme of GlamRock and presented RUNWAY style!

Nixem and RUNWAY artisans, Francine, Suzy, Danial and Mel dexterously and laboriously created a complete GlamRock body-painting on Edwin, Carol and Roy.... while the rest were made up GlamRock style.. some models had Swarovski crystals glued on their bodies.

The RUNWAY artisans not only incorporating body-painting but taking RUNWAY and TATTOO as the creative directions where the models were in wearable art and breath taking 'tattoos' were drawn on them.. with a touch of ribbons and of course, Swarovski crystals.. the bling bling factor.

Of course, Mr Toh Kok Swee, the head of Tai Wah Distributors Pte Ltd and the WAHL representatives were simply ecstatic!...

Runway Concepts undertook the event management for Tai Wah Distributor Pte Ltd's, The Art of WAHL Hair Runway Body-Paint Show at the Swiss Hotel.

Great hairstylists from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Japan & USA contributed their vast knowledge on fabulous technique using WAHL clipper showcasing the cutting edge twist on hairstyling for both male and female.

3 models are body-painted incorporating runway factor interwoven with spectacular tattoo technique since the showcase is about tattoo and razor techniques. Of course, the runway team ,Francine, Danial, Mel & Suzy was led by the effervescent NIXEM.

U Channel: Man vs Machine Production

Runway Concepts somehow got involved in a U Channel production for an up coming food show featuring the fight for supremacy of traditional hand made food products versus machine generated food products. Nixem took time to train the fresh models catwalk and basic makeup tips to make them look better both on and off camera.

Production was best described as a long, tiring, enjoyable and fattening experience. eat...shoot... again... eat...shoot... NG... etc. The glamour on TV is not all that easy ladies and gents, so take note wannabes... LOL

Many Models were involved in the shoot and lets just say more than some would probably be laying off eating donuts for quite a while.... considering the mess we made.

Overall, it was a great experience. After we send the models and ourselves off to the gym that is.....

Zouk was transformed into London Tube with its magnetic antics; RUNWAY element is infused into the event,depicting the pulse of LONDON fashion where colorful characters are interwovened. Each characters are accentuated with a RUNWAY twist. Evi, the station master who is a fashion wannabe struts the tube like a catwalk pedigree where here baton is replaced with a blusher brush and dressed up uniform; Pretty Face police officer, Edwin; 60s protester, Sarah advocating "Save Beer, Drink Water'; the happy go lucky busker, Yi Fei; a bored professional showing off the latest McBook Air, courtesy of MacMultimedia of course; an irritable bowel syndrome Gayle, the dancer who can't seem to keep still, plugging to 3 Ipods; a closeted OCD graffitti artist, Raymond; Hounding street urchin, Champ, peddling bottle opener of Heineken.. a supposedly freebies to commuters!

The pageant consists of 4 couples, with the students partnering each Prof, including Margaret Chan (Creative Thinking), the actress with her unforgettable tagline, "I'll crush you like a cockroach!" on Masters of the Sea.

I first met Nixem the runway director in an introduction class to modeling. It was at that same period which I started dabbling with the media industry, and like every other new comer out there finding people who believe in you was on of the hardest thing. Well, Nixem believed in me and having support like his made me believe in myself.

Another characteristic of Nixem that won my admiration is his passion for his craft, I vividly remembered him striding down our practice runway in killer heels just to demonstrate the right posture to my fellow female students. His passion for his craft truly inspired me to improve mine.

Nixem has also always been a supporter of local talents regardless in television or modeling. His die hard determination in trying to improve local talent as well as giving them a platform to perform is something I salute from the bottom of my heart.

Nixem has morphed from a mere sales, marketing, creative and even tour leading to be the Runway Director and International Body Painting Artist who garnered mammoth tasks like Tag Heuer, MSN, Fujitsu to Heineken and also brought him to do body paint projects in Hong Kong, Indonesia and others.

His talents are endless..the inborn talent and sitting on the other side of the fence has given him the impetus , the survival instinct and the eyes for perfection.. anything, RUNWAY... From HERMES to KENZO, MANGO, LEVIS, SWAROVSKI, MOTOROLA, TONI & GUYS, RAYURE, SOLE2SOLE, HANSEL, CORTEFIEL, SPRINGFIELD, PEDRO DEL HIERRO etc..etc..

As the Runway Director, not only he conjures Runway Shows, but the premium in giving back to the clients the alternative avenue in making and recognising its might through sponsorship and workshops.

Dare any other runway directors to svelte on pair of heels and sashays the runway putting the professionals to shame, with a body to boot... If you think he's superb in gender bending, think again.

He will switch to men's pair with might and dare any guys to compare to his wash-bod abs. Inching into his prime, he goes, " HAVE IT, FLAUNT IT".

Better still, dare any runway directors to pluck any brushes and double up as the make up artist that includes doing body-painting all at the same time... VERSATILITY is the new genre for TODAY. But of course, he lets the make up pros in peace, but his eyes hawking..

Ever since Filipino- Chinese Brent Chua made the move to thrilling New York
City, he's found nothing but success and happiness. Truly does New York have
the utmost difficult market in fashion to tackle, especialy for those of
non-caucasian ethnicities. Chua feels the stroke of good fortune to be
offered such opportunities since his arrival.

His typical day is spent conditioning his body, being sent out for castings,
and catching up with friends or spending quality time with his loved one.
Chua also finds pleasure in catching movies at the cinema, walking the city
streets only to discover something new everyday, and dining out in New
York's grand variety of restaurants. However, he feels that nothing beats
SINGAPOREAN LOCAL CUISINE.

It's easy to get lost in disregard for those you've crossed path with in the
past. Before falling asleep at night, Chua never neglects to acknowledge the
people who have supported him throughout his career, one of them happening
to be NIXEM.

He feels blessed to have come such a long way from winning the Male Model of
the Year at the Singapore Fashion Awards 2004 to making a mark in the Big

All I can say it’s all about that LOOK!.. Stick out your butt, strut those legs, blank stare, straight chin, chiseled shoulder, swing that hips and enjoy the glamour!

We not talking about pussycat pageantry here… it’s all about RUNWAY!

It all begins from a figment of a designer that leads to its creation of a piece of not just an ordinary garment… but a signature that commands respect.

In short, swarms of hardworking honeybees of event manager, public relations, food, beverage & venue liaison agents, stage & décor engineers, sound engineer, lighting engineer, hair and make up technicians, stylists, photographers, dresser, ushers, printers … and do I miss someone?.. of course,…

RUNWAY DIRECTOR… who commands the whole show…from conceptualizing the events to tiny details such as piece of tape he of course, ensures the models knows her pose, poise and catwalk.

From here, that piece of garment, collectively is enshrined thematically based on its seasonal directions and the good hardworking horses, the clothes hangars or well, the models, will gallop on the immaculately constructed runway to the beat of harmony and sashay the finely crafted designer’s dream into a reality.

Getting myself in body-paint by chance has indeed turn it into a spectacular career... yes.. apart from wallowing in the beauty of the art, i got paid for it. Interesting platform if you are considering incorporating it for corporate marketing campaigns such as in exhibition and product launches.

I am simply the artist.

I coined ideas and how the body painting could be positioned in achieving corporate objectives. An important element for any corporations indeed. I hate to dictate as an artist, esprit de corps and sense of camaraderie is preferred way., well.. we have to make everyone happy, the acquired skill since mid 1995.

My job has taken me places and i have worked for the beautiful people at MSN, Microsoft, Canon, Dell, Swatch, Tag Heuer, Hewlett Packard, Mitutoyo, Fujitsu, Swarovski, Bacardi, OCBC, Standard Chartered Bank, Pacific Internet, Polaroid, Heineken, Motorola, Levi's, Calvin Klein.. and ....the list goes on...

The essence of body painting is in its details. The right choice of paint is of utmost importance, for that super outdoor or rather 'water-resistant' like in swimming pool, or the bloke is practically made of perpetual sweaty fountain, try supra based paint from Kryolan. But one thing for sure, it's a living hell to remove off the paint... but of coz, olive oil is the answer, unless you are being cheap... any other grease will do! Another thing i like about Kryolan, it has a good array of both wet proof and water based ultra-violet paints. This will be beautiful when the model displays places like disco and club.

Airbrush is a must when it comes to body painting, simply, it adds the oomph to our inherent 3D of human canvas.

And a dash of glitters will add glitzy look to the finished look
